The Callaway eCLIPse is yet another great Callaway product that stands out from most golf watch accessories for its bare bones simplicity. The eCLIPse golf clip is manufactured and supported by IZZO, a partnership that has produced many great fold accessories. Although it doesn’t offer the robust features and functionality most other golf accessories have, the price of the this clip on gps device makes it extremely affordable.
The eCLIPse isn’t your typical golf watch, since it isn’t really a golf watch at all. It can be clipped to your belt or bag, easily detached and fit in your pocket. If you’re someone who doesn’t want to spend $200 on a golf watch and just want an extra tool for scoring features and GIR tracking, center, back, and green distances, distances to hazards and doglegs, this is a good option. If you are looking for something stylish to wear on and off the course, however, you may want to look at other options.
Callaway eCLIPse Review
The Callaway eCLIPse seems like a minimalist adaptation of what the golf watch accessory market typically offers. It’s unique design still manages to deliver a versatile and convenient experience. It is a CLIP and not a watch, so keep that in mind for the remainder of this review and your purchasing decisions. The fact that it is a clip offers some cool benefits, such as the ability to detach it and place it anywhere.
The convenience of the clip, features available including the 30,000+ preloaded golf courses, modest price, and the sleek durable style make this gps gaadget a viable contender to any golf tracking accessory out there. While it does not offer the data aggregation features or community that competitors such as Garmin offer, it is still a Callaway offering with excellent build and superb customer support.
Performance Review of the Callaway eCLIPse:
Callaway’s partnership with IZZO juiced up their golf accessories with an extremely comprehensive golf course database. The eCLIPse is a neat little tool for any golfer to have, and its affordable price makes something that requires less of a financial commitment to get into. This means that novice golfers are able to get access to over 30,000 golf courses and other analytical features for a modest price of less than $100.
Keep in mind that a comparison between the Callaway eCLIPse and other more expensive golf watches wouldn’t necessarily be a fair comparison. Feature for feature, the eCLIPse can compete. For style points, however, since the Callaway eCLIPse isn’t a wearable it is obviously lacking those features.
Callaway eCLIPse Look and Feel:
The Callaway brand is definitely a big selling factor for many buyers of the Callaway eCLIPse. This sleek little tool can be detached and placed virtually anywhere the clip will allow, and this is an advantage often overlooked. For example, if you are golfing on a particularly hot day, sometimes golf watch bands can start to collect a pool of sweat (and not to mention that watch tan you get to sport for days afterward). Instead of taking off your watch and placing it in awkwardly in your pocket or golf cart, you can just clip your eCLIPse on your belt or golf bag and it will still function perfectly.
What I enjoy about the Callaway eCLIPse is that it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. The bare-bone minimalism can be seen in the face of the clip, and the polished industrial metal clip looks pretty cool. The clip is detachable from the main piece itself, meaning you can even strip down the weight to the lightweight clip if necessary.
Callaway GPSync Watch Golf Features
This handy gps golf clip comes with most of the features standard golf watches do such as shot tracking and golf course information. The Callaway eCLIPse shows accurate distances to the front, center, and back of the green, as well as to the front and back of water hazards, doglegs, and bunkers. The scorekeeper tracks scores, GIR, and putts per round as well.
The Callaway eCLIPse’s clip is the main differentiating component, which can be seen as an advantage or disadvantage contingent upon what you’re looking for in a golf watch. Personally, I think the clip adds an element of versatility that golf watches can’t offer. Few other watches can compete on the price per feature, earning this little powerful clip a rating of a mid-B. A few features that would bring it up a notch would be the ability to aggregate and measure data on an external app or site. The customer service that Callaway offers is superior to most golf accessories out there. Updates might take a while to download, the process is still pretty simple.
What makes the Callaway eCLIPse stand out most is that it can be acquired for under $100, and usually trends around $79. There are also no additional subscriptions or annual update payments necessary. This means that you get access to all the great features Callaway and IZZO have built into the Callaway eCLIPse for a mere $79, without having to pay a premium for a watch band.
